2. Tainan Dalpra Biography
2.1. Early Life
Deivid Soares, a Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Champion, was blessed with the future BJJ champion Tainan Dalpra on 6 November 2000 in Florianopolis, Brazil.
2.2. Interest In Jiu-Jitsu
Tainan played a variety of sports growing up, including Soccer and Boxing, but he fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu. He grew up seeing a BJJ champ, his father Deivid Soares, that developed his love for Jiu-Jitsu in his childhood.
2.3. Dalpra Started Jiu-Jitsu
Dalpra's first instructor was his father, who started teaching him the true science of Jiu-Jitsu techniques at the age of 5. Then he joined Everson Avila’s Academy where he trained for 3 years with his father. After 3 years of training, Dalpra decided to join AS academy to level up his skills.
He started to participate in local tournaments. The victory from the local grounds urged him to compete at the higher levels. However, Tainan Dalpra participated in IBJJF Pan Kids Championship at the age of 13 and won the Gold Medal.
2.4. Met With Rafael and Guilherme Mendes
On the podium of the IBJJF Pan Kids Championship 2014, Dalpra had the opportunity to meet with the BJJ icons, Guilherme Mandes and Rafael. Both of them are not only the best coaches in the BJJ world but also run AOJ (Arts Of Jiu-Jitsu) which is one of the best kid's Jiu-Jitsu academies.
2.5. Joined AOJ (Arts of Jiu-Jitsu)
Tainan already had goals of becoming a global champion through training. After discussing his ambitions with the Mendes brothers, he enrolled in the AOJ youth scholarship program and relocated to Costa Mesa, California to pursue his aim of ranking among the world's elite grapplers.
2.6. Won Each Competition of Juvenile Division
The decision to join AOJ became fruition in 2016, and 2017. In 2016 and 2017, Tainan won every competition he entered in the juvenile division, including Pan American and World Championship, and began to draw attention to himself as an upcoming fighter.
2.7. Promoted to Purple Belt
In 2018, he won double gold in every single competition in the adult division and was promoted to the Purple Belt at the podium of the World Championship. After reaching the level of the purple belt, he never stopped because he knew it was only a small step toward his goal of becoming a multiple-time World Champion.
2.8. Promoted to Black Belt
In 2020, after two years of stringent practice and hard training, his coach Guilherme Mendes awarded him the Black Belt on the podium of the Pan Championship. This was the second time when Dalpra awarded someone a Black Belt tBJJ belt at the podium. Tainan Dalpra celebrated this huge success by talking about his hard work in an interview.
“I was happy with my performance at the Pan, as I've always worked hard to get results. That was another one of my goals, to have a good performance at Pan, a championship I've been winning since 2016. This year I had three fights and managed to submit all three. In the final, I faced a well-known athlete (Rafael Torres, from Alliance), who's already been at the brown belt for a long time, but I managed to impose the strategy I had drawn up with my team and fit the submission”
Tainan explained that it was a very emotional moment to receive the black belt from my mentor at the podium,
“It was great happiness for me, receiving the black belt from the hands of my idol (Gui Mendes) and also being on the side of the team, which is so important to me. I really wanted to have received my graduation with the presence of my father, who was always my biggest supporter, but I am very happy for this phase and I know that we will have many moments of joy together. Really, I'm quite young, but I'm happy to have reached the highest level at 19 years old. It's strange to still know that I'm young and have many challenges ahead of me. I try not to think about it and I keep working hard, regardless of age”
