Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gis for Men, Women and Kids
While tough, our Gis are lightweight and breathable, so you can roll in comfort and stay on top of your game. This is particularly important for BJJ athletes who require a supportive and comfortable environment in which to train and develop their skills. Unlike other Gi brands in the market, our fabric is pre-shrunk, so you don't have to worry about the Gi becoming too tight after washing. Elite Sports manufactures a wide range of gis, which come in various sizes and colors, designed to fit all levels of practitioners—men,
women, and kids.
The Elite Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gis are IBJJF-approved and are worn by thousands of athletes in BJJ competitions across the world. Because we love the sport and appreciate people joining the community, we include a free white belt with each BJJ Gi ordered. If you want to bundle up and save, we offer these gis in a three-pack as well, which comes with an elite sports drawstring bag. We are proud to be part of the BJJ community, and we are always here for you.

How to pick the right gi?
When picking a BJJ gi, you should take the following factors into account: size, comfort, durabilty, and style. You should make sure to pick a BJJ gi that best fits your body type. Make sure that the gi you pick is for the right gender, height, and weight group. The material of the BJJ gis should be tough enough to be pulled without tearing but also fit snugly without chafing as you move around. Finally, make sure to pick a color and aesthetic that best suits your tastes. You will find it difficult to fight if you feel you are not looking your best.
How long should a BJJ Gi last?
A high-quality BJJ gi can last between 1 to 3 years. Depending on how frequently you train or compete, the fabric may begin to fray at a faster rate. Typical signs that your BJJ gi is starting to become worn out is if the collar, arm cuffs, or ankle cuffs start to become frayed.
How heavy should my GI be?
The weight of a BJJ gi is determined by their size, grams per square meter, and the thickness of their weave. Most BJJ gis can weigh between 1.5 to 6 lbs. The smaller BJJ gis weigh between 1.5 to 2.5 lbs. The average BJJ gis weigh between 2.5 to 4 lbs. The heaviest BJJ gis weigh between 4 to 6 lbs.
How do I know what size gi I need?
When trying to figure out which size BJJ gi will fit you, make sure to use a size chart. There is a size chart provided for men, women, and children. BJJ gis will come in small, medium, large, extra large, or 2x large. On the size chart, there will be a grid with each gi size falling in a certain weight and height range. If you have trouble finding a size that correlates to your height and weight, use your weight as the determining factor.
Should a gi be tight? How should my GI fit me?
There are several ways to tell whether your BJJ gi fits correctly. The bottom of the top should rest against your upper thighs. The leg cuffs of the pants should rest above your ankles. When the belt is being tied around your waist, there should be enough length for you to tie a double knot without the ends sticking too far out. The ends of the sleeves should only be four fingers past your hands. BJJ gis should be tight enough so there is minimal loose fabric but still allow full freedom of movement.
Should I have more than one GI? Should i own more than one gi?
Yes, it is best to have a spare full gi set just in case. If your current gi becomes dirty or gets torn, you will want to have a backup ready. You may not be able to attend training or competitions without a BJJ gi that fits BJJ training facility or tournament standards.
Should I dry my BJJ gi?
When you need to wash your BJJ gi, make sure the temperature of the water in the washer is at a low temperature. Also, make sure the spin cycle speed is low to prevent premature wear and tear. After your BJJ gi is done washing, make sure to hang or air dry the top and bottom. Putting a BJJ gi in a dryer may cause shrinkage due to the heat of the dryer.
Do you wear anything under a BJJ Gi?
It is recommended you wear comfortable and lightweight short sleeve tops under your BJJ gi. BJJ gis are often pulled by the collar which could leave your chest exposed if you are not wearing a shirt underneath. Also, wearing a shirt underneath your BJJ gi could offer extra protection from abrasions and rashes.
Do gi colors mean anything in BJJ?
Unlike with belt colors, the color of BJJ gis do not reflect your current rank or level of experience. It is only legal to grab onto the collar, sleeves, and pants of a BJJ gi when trying to subdue your opponent.
How to shrink a bjj gi?
If you need to make a BJJ gi one size smaller, put the gi in the washer. Make sure the washer is using warm water at least or above 100°F. A good rule of thumb to remeber is that the higher the temperature, the more the gi will shrink in size. Make sure to set to washer to high speed before starting as well. After the gi is done going through the washer, put the gi into the dryer. After you take the gi out of the dryer, check to see how the gi fits. On average, a gi will become 5% to 10% smaller after going through both the washer and dryer at high heat.
