2.1. Who is Mica Galvao?
Mica Galvao was born in Brazil on October 8th, 2003. Galvao is famous for his early success in jiu-jitsu in both gi and no-gi grappling martial arts. As a teenager, Galvao participated as a black belt in both gi and no-gi competitions. Galvao first trained under his father, Melqui Galvao in Brazil. Mica Galvao has been lauded as one of the youngest competitors in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Mica is equally praised in no-gi tournaments for his high-caliber skills, earning awards, and finding opportunities to participate in gi BJJ events.
2.2. When Did He Start BJJ?
Mica Galvao began learning BJJ at the early age of two. He took part in his first event when he was four years old. With a deadly combination of judo and wrestling techniques, Galvao was awarded a black belt in Luta Livre Esportiva at the age of 10. His father, Melqui Galvao, is credited with Mica Galvao’s early success in BJJ.
When he was a teenager, Mica earned a lot of respect in local tournaments and became a top juvenile athlete in the martial arts world. At such an early age, Mica continued his winning streak in IBJJF competitions and continued his preparation for black belt competitions. Mica was given his purple belt at the age of 16. In the following year when he was 17, Mica was awarded a black belt.
2.3. Early Life and Soccer Dream
Mica Galvao first became interested in BJJ when he was two years old due to his father’s training and guidance. Melqui Galvao, who is also a black belt jiu-jitsu fighter with many prestigious records to his name, introduced his son to the sport. Mica was already skilled in grappling when he was two years old. Besides BJJ, the young martial artist also learned judo and wrestling. Galvao became a well-rounded athlete due to his lack of fear, intense training, and diverse skills. Mica first got the attention of the BJJ world when he was awarded the gold medal.
Before committing to a BJJ career, Mica took up soccer as a sport. But soon he realized that soccer wasn't his strong suit. Galvao returned to BJJ and decided to start his career.
2.4. Youngest Balck Belt in Jiu-Jitsu
Mica Galvao earned his black belt in 2021, making him the youngest jiu-jitsu black belt in the history of jiu-jitsu at the age of 17. Mica’s black belt was given to him by his father, Melqui Galvao.
After earning his black belt, Mica participated in the Who’s Number One bout and demonstrated his impressive skills, and defeated several opponents, managing to win 2nd place.

5. Mica Galvao Historic Fights
5.1. Mica Galvao vs Oliver Taza
At the age of 17, Mica Galvao fought against the veteran Oliver Taza at 2022 Who’s Number One (WNO). Galvao applied a lock on Taza’s body while Taza put up a half guard for 10 minutes. At the end of the round, the judges declared Galvao the winner. Within the first 15 minutes of the match, Galvao won against Oliver Taza via decision. In the overall match, Galvao defended himself well against Taza’s attacks. Both athletes fought standing up with Galvao staying in the dominant position from the start of the match. Taza attempted to bring Galvao down to the ground via a takedown. However, Galvao maintained his closed guard while maintaining the dominant position over Taza. Taza tried to go for one of Galvao’s legs and back up but Galvao successfully escaped. Galvao vs Taza was one of the most anticipated fights of the WNO.

Mica Galvao’s match against the world champion Leandro Lo was one of the greatest professional fights of the young BJJ star’s career. At the start of the match, Mica took the lead. Mica started the match by pulling a closed guard, spending most of the time trying to put Lo off balance by using sweeps and submissions. Mica used an armbar to gain the advantage for the rest of the match. Galvao finally subdued Leandro and his place in the finals of the BJJ Stars. By defeating Leandro Lo, Mica got the confidence needed to participate in IBJJF arenas and ADCC championships.

Mica Galvao took down Servio Tulio with an armbar in the middleweight final of the 2022 Brasileiro. Mica Galvao is the youngest BJJ star in the history of BJJ, who spends his time studying and practicing jiu-jitsu techniques in hopes of reaching his dream of competing in over 100 matches throughout his career. To teach others how to execute BJJ techniques, Galvao compiled his advice on an educational DVD. This training course covers techniques related to guarding positions such as the closed guard, open guard, and half guard, along with modern ways to bypass and attack these guards. Here is an overview of the entire course,
- Galvao explains how to attack the guard with knee cuts, including next-generation details and technical adaption.
- Use a knee cut system to control the guard and slice through to make this common passing style a lethal weapon. Combine submission, back takedowns, baseball choke, and brabo chokes to control and finish fights.
- Explains how to combine movements and apply pressure when using techniques like the tornado and over-under passes.
