2. Pedro Maia’s Biography

Pedro Henrique Maia Costa is one of the strongest black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His common name is Pedro Maia. Maia is renowned as the top athlete who gained fame in BJJ at a very young age. His innate skills enabled him to acquire success in various top BJJ competitions. Maia also established the ‘’We Flow BJJ Academy’’ in Brasília, Brazil.

2.1. Pedro Maia’s Early Life

Pedro Henrique Maia was born on October 27, 1999, in Ceilândia. Maia had a keen interest in martial arts from his childhood, so he first practiced tae-kwon-do. Although Maia’s parents supported him in playing combat sports, his association with TKD was for a short period. Pedro’s father had a great interest in marital arts so he always focused on Pedro’s sports career. His father also followed the promotion of Ultimate Fighting Tournament.

2.2. Admission to CEI Jiu-Jitsu School

When Maia was very young, his father admitted him to a CEI jiu-jitsu coaching school. Maia was trained under the supervision of Cláudio Careca, a renowned grappling instructor. Maia developed his basic jiu-jitsu skills and earned the white to purple belt under Cláudio Careca.

2.3. Scholarship at Ribeiro’s University

When Maia was a purple belt, he met Saulo Ribeiro, a remarkable BJJ Grappler. Pedro Maia also trained under Saulo Ribeiro and got the supreme chance to master the BJJ skills. Saulo was the main personality who transformed Maia into a phenomenal jiu-jitsu athlete. Saulo also assisted Maia in traveling to California and getting admission to Ribeiro’s University. There Maia took the coaching classes without paying any charges as he got the full scholarship. On this journey, Saulo also rewarded Maia with a brown belt.

2.4. Pedro Maia’s Black Belt Rank

In 2020, Pedro Maia earned the black belt under Felipe Rair. Then after a year, Maia also opened his own BJJ school in Brasília that was named “We Flow”.
