2. Igor Schneider’s Biography

Igor Schneider is one of the top-class BJJ black belt fighters under Cicero Costha. Throughout his Jiu-Jitsu journey, he has won multiple titles in high-ranked competitions and competed against BJJ’s best athletes. He is a 6x Brazilian Nationals, 4X Pan American, 2x European Open and 1x IBJJF World Championship winner in Gi and NoGi tournaments. Schneider is married to Samantha Fonseca, a BJJ black belt athlete, and they are both working as trainers in the Brazilian top team.

2.1. Igor Schneider’s Early Life

Igor Schneider was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on February 01, 1994, and grew up in the metropolis town of Osasco. Schneider has been overweight since he was a child. His parents encouraged him to join martial arts training to lose some pounds. At age 10, he started training in jiu-jitsu under coach Lino Cotti (Palito). Cotti was also a student under Charles Faria at Equipe Godoi Academy, whose name was later changed to G13. Schneider’s house was near the gym, so he used to bring his mother’s key with a miniature tiger as a keychain every day. One day, Igor forgot his key at the gym. When Cotti learned about it, he liked the keychain and started calling him Little Tiger. As Schneider grew up, his name changed to Big Tiger (Tigrao), which became his identity.

2.2. Igor Schneider’s Rank Promotion

Under the guidance of coach Lino Cotti and coach Charles Faria, Schneider was promoted to blue and purple belt. In his blue and purple belt, he competed in the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals and IBJJF World Championships multiple times. He won the competition, becoming one of the rising stars in Jiu-Jitsu. In 2012, Schneider decided to take his passion for jiu-jitsu to a more advanced level, so he joined Cicero Costha‘s PSLPB Academy. Carrying a tremendous record, Costha promoted Schneider to brown belt in November 2013. On his brown belt, Schneider won titles as CBJJ Brazilain Nationals in ultra-heavy and absolute divisions. After two years, he was promoted to BJJ black belt under Cicero Costha. Soon after, Schneider became a part of the new academy, New School Brotherhood, due to internal clashes between Cicero Costha and Leanardo Lo.

2.3. Igor Schneider’s BJJ Top Achievements

In 2004, Igor Schneider set foot in Jiu-Jitsu training, and since then, he has never looked back. His hard work and dedication have led him to the list of BJJ top athletes. He has competed against some top names such as Mohmmad Aly, Igor Ribeiro, Rodrigo Ribeiro, Victor Honorio, Pedro Souza, Pedro Alex, and others. Schneider has won multiple medals in the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals, IBJJF International Open, IBJJF Pan, IBJJF World, European Open, and UAEJJF Grand Slam Championships.

2.4. Igor Schneider’s Personal Life

Igor Schneider is a loving husband and a caring father. He married Samantha Fonseca in 2016 and has been together for years. Schneider’s wife is also a BJJ black belt. On November 10, 2021, the couple had a daughter, Guilnha.

For him, his wife and daughter are his strength and happiness above all:

“After more than 1 year here in San Antonio I am finally able to have my family with me and that was the best accomplishment of my life here, it was hard here alone. Since I got to the US it was my main goal, I put my dreams and my career in second place because my family is the most important thing to me. My family is my strength”.

2.5. Igor Schneider’s Professional Record

Igor Schneider has competed in almost 171 fights against numerous BJJ top athletes since he got promoted to black belt. He has a professional record of 109 wins with 62 losses until 2024. He used his favourite position half guard, in most combats, and won most of the fights by points.

2.6. Igor Schneider’s Coaching Career

Igor Schneider is still competing in fights and will hopefully compete in high-ranked tournaments. Due to his notable performance in competitions, he now trains his outstanding Jiu-Jitsu techniques to young athletes and his wife at the Brazilian Top Team Association. He was also a part of the Dream Art Project Team, San Antonio, in 2022, which consists of a team of the best grapplers of BJJ. The Dream Art Project Team posted it on their social media page:

“We are grateful to see great results with your dedication and effort. It is a great pleasure to have you with us in the team and to know that we are so well represented”.

Schneider also conducts live seminars in different states showcasing his best positions.
