2. Meyram Maquine’s Biography

Meyram Maquiné Alves is a BJJ Black Belt under Luiz Guigo Guilherme. Meyram also trained under Lloyd Irvin and Alcenor Alves. He conquered many prestigious world titles such as IBJJF and UAEJJF titles. Meyram is also a famous name in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour. (AJP)

2.1. Meyram Maquine’s Early Life

Meyram Maquiné was born on 29 October 2000 in Manaus, State of Amazonas, Brazil. There’s no wonder why Meyram is one of the fierce fighters of his era because he belonged to the heart of Brazil, the Amazon Jungle.

2.2. Meyram Maquiné and Capoeira

Meyram Maquiné was always interested in martial arts. He was involved in competitive sports from a young age. He started capoeira when he was only 5 years old. It was mainly because his father was a capoeira practitioner.

Capoeira is a combination of dance, acrobatics, and music. It is actually considered an Afro-Brazilian martial art.

2.3. Started BJJ

Meyram quickly became fascinated by capoeira and decided to learn the actual martial art. He was only 5 or 6 years old when he enrolled in a BJJ class. Meyram really admired capoeira techniques that taught him kicking and some other moves. Being a Brazilian, the native Brazilian fighting spirit was in his blood and he knew that sooner or later he had to satisfy the fighting quest.

But it was fortunate enough for Meyram that he fell in love with the grappling sport. It was his love that made him such a staunch and famous grappler in no time.

2.4. Trained Under Alcenor Alves

Meyram got BJJ training under Alcenor Alves. Alves was the one who instantly recognized Meyram’s talent and gave his full attention to that young struggling child. Alves knew that Meyram was a young talent who under the right coach would bring fame to not only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but also for himself.

2.5. Transferred to Sao Paulo

Alves taught Meyram every technique he was skilled in. But he wanted more for his hard-working and deserving student. He had full trust in his student’s competence. He therefore encouraged Meyram to train with a more accomplished and skilled team outside of Manaus i.e., in São Paulo.

He relocated Meyram to the Sao Paulo estate so that Meyram would practice with a greater BJJ team as well as gain more awareness about the BJJ competitive circuit.

2.6. Meyram Maquiné At Guigo Jiu-Jitsu

In São Paulo, Meyram was offered a scholarship by Giugo Jiu-Jitsu. It was a life-changing event for Meyram as now he would get his righteous fame and success. At Guigo Jiu-Jitsu, Meyram receives training from Luiz Guilherme, the founder of Guigo Jiu-Jitsu.

It was the result of Giulherme’s training and Meyram’s industrious skills that soon he became famous. It was at that time that Meyram won the 1st position at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals Teen in 2014.

2.7. Went on his First BJJ Camp

In 2016, Meyram participated in his first BJJ camp in Maryland, United States. It was the first time that Meyram left Brazil. He represented Guigo Jiu-Jitsu and Lloyd Irvin’s team in the student exchange protocol. This was the time Meyram received the recognition he always wished for. His skills went global and he became a famous grappler even in the United States.

2.8. Represented TLI and GJJ

After the first BJJ camp, Meyram visited the United States every year for the fight camp. There, he participated in many world championships representing both Team Lloyd Irvin (TLI) and Guigo Jiu-Jitsu (GJJ).

3.4. Covid -19 Affected Meyram Maquine’s Career

2017-2019 were the peak years of fame and success for Meyram. He not only won world championships rather proved himself as an expert and professional grappler. He had long ago decided to pursue BJJ as a career but he became more serious about BJJ in those years.

He wanted to earn his Black Belt in 2020, but due to Covid-19, he could not participate in fights. He wanted to make 2020 his most bright year as a Brown Belt but a pandemic ruined his plans. He could not travel to compete and had to remain in isolation.

3.5. Promoted to Black Belt

During the pandemic, he did not stop his training. Rather he trained hard under Luiz Guigo Guilherme and Anaue Pavanello, Luiz’s personal trainer. Seeing Meyram’s dedication towards BJJ, Luiz Guilherme promoted him to the Black Belt rank on 20 June 2020.

3.6. IBJJF Pan Championship
