Eddie Bravo Promoted To Fourth Degree BJJ Black Belt

Eddie Bravo is an accomplished black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the founder of 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu. He has recently announced his promotion to fourth-degree BJJ black belt. The upgrade took place by his long-time head instructor and renowned fellow BJJ fighter, Jean Jacques Machado. In 1994, Eddie first participated in sports and trained under the Machado. His interest directed him towards the Jiu-Jitsu journey where he learned the basic Jiu-Jiitsu skills to compete in the BJJ tournaments. In 1998, Eddie earned the blue belt after winning in various BJJ competitions. Then in 1999, Eddie became a purple belt and started practicing a few major Jiu-Jitsu techniques including twister, Half guard, and rubber guard.

In 2003, Eddie Bravo showcased his incredible grappling skills and won at the  North American ADCC trials. He faced various top BJJ competitors and secured the winning titles by submitting them including Royler Gracie and Gustavo Dantas. When Gracie attempted his knee-sliding guard pass, Eddie Bravo applied the triangle choke and won the match.

When Eddie returned from America, he was promoted to black belt. He also opened his first 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Los Angeles that only relied on the no-gi. Eddie also played his role as a promoter as he created the Eddie Bravo Invitational event that provided the EBI overtime ruleset advancement. He also formulated the Combat Jiu-Jitsu concept that regularly managed the world championships. Eddie branded himself outside the regular BJJ by sharing a few words in his book, Jiu-Jitsu Unleashed. He said:

“Their system is flawed because they have stopped evolving it. They insist on getting good at no-gi grappling, you must be a master grappling with the gi, but this isn’t true, my students are living proof. They only say that because that is what they teach. Fear of losing money is the only reason why black belt instructors keep perpetuating this lie.”

There are 10th Planet gyms all around the world and dozens of elite grapplers representing the team in competition.

Now after twenty years, Eddie Bravo gets promoted to fourth degree on his black belt by Jean Jacques Machado. 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Academy has also gained fame as one of the biggest BJJ affiliation institutes globally. A large number of athletes are getting practical training in this academy and exhibiting their Jiu-Jitsu skills in various top BJJ tournaments.

Eddie Bravo posted the following statement about his promotion to fourth-degree black belt under Jean Jacques Machado on his official Instagram post, Machado also shared the collective photo of the affiliation group:
