2. Kyle Boehm Biography
Kyle Boehm is a 10th Planet black belt under John Botello. He has built quite a reputation in submission-only tournaments. Boehm started his career in MMA before transitioning to BJJ. He has defeated world champions like Gabriel Almeida, Tex Johnson, and more.
2.1. Kyle Boehm's Early Life
Kyle Boehm was born in Escondido, California in the United States on April 19, 1987.
2.2. Interest in Rock Climbing
Ever since his early childhood, Boehm had an interest in rock climbing. At the age of nine, Boehm started rock climbing and competed at the national level as a teenager.
2.3. Involved in Competitive Sports
While learning rock climbing, Boehm also showed an interest in other sports too. He actively participated in wrestling, soccer, basketball, running, and track and field. Boehm stuck with rock climbing but soon took an interest in combat sports because of wrestling. He already had a great body so wrestling and other sports were not hard for him
2.4. Kyle Boehm and Mountain Climbing
Boehm was only 17 years old when he climbed the highest mountain outside of Asia known as Aconcagua located in Argentina.
2.5. Northern Arizona University
Despite Boehm’s interest in combat sports and outdoor activities, he focused on going to college first. Due to having a background in sports, he was easily admitted to Northern Arizona University (NAU) playing for the college’s rugby team.
2.6. Jiu-Jitsu Training at 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu
Boehm started learning jiu-jitsu to help strengthen his MMA skills. However, after he started training at 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Academy, he decided to focus on jiu-jitsu. Boehm’s instructor was John Botello, a 10th Planet black belt under the founder of 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, Eddie Bravo. Boehm started his BJJ training in December 2014.
2.7 Kyle Boehm’s Exceptional Fighting Style
The reason Boehm’s exceptional fighting style is so effective is because of his limitless stamina gained at a very young age. Mountain climbing is not an easy task but it was Boehm who made a new record.
3. Kyle Boehm’s MMA Career
3.1. Rage in the Cage Career
Boehm played rugby for almost two years in college. After that, he developed an interest in MMA. Boehm already had a body fit for MMA because of his athletic background. He currently has a 3-0-0 MMA record. Boehm’s MMA debut was at Rage in the Cage in 2012.
At Rage in the Cage 158, Boehm competed with Leroy Douglas III and won via rear naked choke in the first round. At Rage in the Cage 163, Boehm won against Raul Nava via unanimous decision.
3.2. Started BJJ to Improve MMA Skills
Boehm started jiu-jitsu only to improve his MMA game instead he got interested in jiu-jitsu and decided to pursue it professionally.
4. Kyle Boehm’s BJJ Matches
4.1. Participated in Local Tournaments
Soon after Boehm started his BJJ training, he started competing in local BJJ tournaments. His athletic background helped him a lot in learning techniques.
4.2. Interest in Submission-Only Tournaments
In 2016, Boehm started to compete in submission-only tournaments. Before that, he competed in BJJ Gi tournaments like the 2014 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
4.3. Eddie Bravo Invitational
Boehm’s first submission-only tournament was the 2016 Eddie Bravo Invitational 9. Boehm lost the first fight to Daniel O’Brien via EBI/OT, but in the second fight Boehm submitted Travis Moore.
4.4. Onnit Invitational Tournament
At the 2017 Onnit Invitational Tournament, Boehm claimed first place in the 93 kg weight division.
4.5. Subversiv Team Tournament
Boehm won first place at the Subversiv Team Tournament in 2018.
4.6. Promoted to 10th Planet Black Belt
Boehm built a splendid career as a colored belt. In October 2019, Boehm was promoted to 10th Planet black belt under his first instructor John Botello.
4.7. King of the Mats Invitational
After becoming a black belt, Boehm aced in the tournaments. He won first place at the 2019 King of the Mats Invitational, winning four consecutive fights in a row.

5.1. Kyle Boehm Vs. Travis Moore
Travis Moore is a 2nd-degree BJJ black belt under Bruno Bastos and is famous for his efficient use of the triangle choke. Boehm, on the other hand, is notorious for his rear naked choke. He brutally submits his opponent via the rear naked choke. At the Eddie Bravo Invitational 9, both fighters got the chance to showcase their skills. Moore tried to lock Boehm’s legs but Boehm didn’t give him the chance. Within seconds in the first round, Boehm submitted Moore via a choke.

5.2. Kyle Boehm Vs. Pedro Marinho
Pedro Marinho is a BJJ black belt under Ulpiano Malachias and is a well-known world No-Gi champion. Boehm started the fight by sitting on and grabbing Marinho by his legs. Boehm attempted a leglock on Marinho, but Marinho quickly managed to escape. Marinho gave up trying to get into a dominant position for fear of what Boehm was capable of. Eventually, time ran out with neither fighter having successfully submitted the other.
During a coin toss for overtime, Marinho won the toss and decided to go for the armbar position. Luckily, Boehm managed to get out of Marinho’s hold. Boehm took the opportunity to take Marinho from the back. He successfully submitted Marinho and won the fight via EBI/OT.

5.3. Kyle Boehm Vs. Lucas Barbosa
Lucas Barbosa is a BJJ black belt under Andre Fabiano. Training at Atos Jiu-Jitsu under Andre Galvao has helped Barbosa improve his game. Barbosa is known for his remarkable pressure guard passing. The fight between the two legends started with both being aggressive. Boehm tried to pin Barbosa’s legs but Barbosa’s speed ensured his escape every single time. Eventually, time ran out with no submission. Barbosa got the advantage and took Boehm from behind to gain back control. Though it looked like Barbosa had the fight under control at first, Boehm managed to get out of his hold. Boehm countered by getting behind Barbosa and maintaining back control for two minutes.
In the third round, Boehm didn’t let Barbosa escape and won the fight by EBI/OT. This was Kyle Boehm’s second fight at the BJJ Fanatics GP and remained undefeated.

Leroy Douglas is an MMA fighter. His fight with Boehm at Rage in the Cage 158 is one of his amateur fights. When the fight started, Boehm took Douglas down via a single-leg takedown. Boehm got on Douglas’s back and landed heavy punches on his head. The punches led to the submission and Boehm submitted Douglas via a rear naked choke in just 40 seconds.
