Conor McGregor deletes the tweet Immediately after reacting to Chandler’s loss.
Michael Chandler played against Charles Oliveira on November 16th, 2024 in Madison Square Garden, New York. He was playing after a two-year break. The last game he played was against Dustin Poirier on November 13th, 2022. He lost that match as well. Hoping to regain his form and start winning, he had a game against Charles this Saturday. But he failed to make a good comeback. Charles Oliveira won by being dominant throughout the match.
The match Chandler played against Charles included five rounds. Charles remained dominant in the first four rounds. He controlled Chandler on the mat and hit the latter on his feet in the first 20 minutes. Chandler shifted the game to his side in the last round and won. He connected some strikes on Charles in the last round and pulled some nice shots. But he could not win the game.
Chandler has won only one match in his last five matches. He has completely lost his form. His record is now 2-4 for the octagon. But even in his defeat, he never fails to entertain his fans.
Conor McGregor, making full use of the opportunity, tweeted on social media platform X, formally known as Twitter. He said:
“Cut Michael Chandler! Just kidding, good fight. The mad little fellow is Michael. I like em’!”
Michael Chandler said he was supposed to attend the game and did his job.
“All I know how to do is throw American Badass C to the wind. Madison Square Garden, are you not entertained? Hey, I had a bunch of callouts. I was supposed to show up tonight, do my job, and win the fight.”
Michael Chandler challenged McGregor after losing two consecutive matches at UFC, one in 2022 and now after two years in 2024. He said Conor should finish The Ultimate Fighter 31 (UFC 31) with him.
“Conor and I need to finish The Ultimate Fighter 31 — if he comes back. He either needs to retire and just sail off into the sunset, or he needs to come back. So, we’ll see what happens.”
The fight between two UFC stars was scheduled to be in June 2024. Unfortunately, Conor McGregor got a toe injury, so the fight was canceled. However, Chandler has not forgotten the scheduled fight with Conor, canceled later on, as he calls out McGregor after a loss against Charles Oliveira.
Chandler also mentioned Max Holloway as another potential opponent for a fight with him at UFC. Although he had two matches in the last two years and lost both, he still believes he has a lot of options for fight.
“Next, maybe Max Holloway for the BMF belt or Conor McGregor.”
Chandler was on break for two years because he was waiting for Conor McGregor to fight with him and finish TUF 31. Chandler realized he couldn't fight with Conor any sooner after the latter got a toe injury. For this, he can't pause his career. Therefore, he returned for a match at UFC 309 against Charles Oliveira, which he unfortunately lost.
Chandler is still hopeful that he will finally get a game to fight with Conor and urges the latter to fight with him soon or retire. He said:
“Max is coming up to 155, and Conor is figuring out his stuff outside of fighting in an octagon. Figuring out if he’s going to come back when he can come back when he can get his house in order. Those are two great names. The lightweight division is stacked and full of awesome dudes. Awesome athletes and just awesome individuals. I’ll enjoy the holidays. About January, I will be speaking to Hunter and Dana and saying, ‘So what’s on the docket for 2025?’ We’ll see. Those are two names that I want.”
Former American Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) Daniel Cormier applauded Chandler for calling out McGregor for a fight. He appreciated him for returning to UFC, though he lost the match. He said he is a big player, and one or two losses can't bring his morale down or demotivate him. His chances of getting a game with Conor McGregor to fight increased after this loss against Michael Charles, Daniel said on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, he said that Chandler has already proved himself a big-match player. He does not need to prove anymore. Despite a defeat against Charles, he still won because he played the game after two years.
UFC president Dana White responded to Michael Chandler’s calling out Conor McGregor for a fight after an interviewer asked him. He said that Conor also wants to fight with Chandler, but he is not fit for the game. He was supposed to fight with Chandler in 2024 but could not because of a toe injury. He said that Conor might make a comeback in late 2025.
“Yeah, it is like a waste at this point. Connor's going to come back in late 25, so there's a lot of time before we figure out who's going to fight Connor. Thank You.”
He also said that if Chandler had won against Charles, he could have imagined his fight with Conor.
“Obviously, you don't make the fights on the night, but I'd imagine if Chandler had beaten Oliva, it would have been well. Olivera is going to going to move on and be fighting up the division.”
Fans hope Michael Charles will continue playing games and regain his lost rhythm.
