Floyd Mayweather Vs. Conor McGregor Confirmed, Here’s The Breakdown

After months of back and forth, it has been confirmed that UFC champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, today’s top pound-for-pound boxer, will square off in a boxing match scheduled for August 26th at the T Mobile Arena is Las Vegas.

The bout will be contested at the junior middleweight 154-pound limit.

While it’s a highly debated topic as to the merit of this fight, mostly by boxing purists who perhaps view MMA as a hype beast compared to the technical mastery of trading fists that is boxing, months of speculation and trash talking resulted in the chance for a payday too large to pass on for the parties involved.

Official betting odds highly favor Mayweather. He is in his element after all, the boxing ring. The debate over who will walk away victor is a heated one. Which sport is closer to real combat? Is it even possible for an MMA fighter to compete at the highest level of boxing? All questions aside, there are many implications as to what it would mean for the fight game if McGregor were to win, making him an underdog but a fan favorite. This will be the definition of a “Superfight”.

Despite boxing purists calling this fight a farce, the demand for this showdown is evident. Virtually every authority in the fight game predicts that this event will be the biggest fight of 2017. Comparisons have been made to the super-fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao which was equally hyped two years ago in 2015.
