Death of the Gracie Legend: Master Robson Gracie

We all are aware of the contributions of the Gracie family to this gentle art BJJ, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The second generation descendant of Grandmaster Carlos Gracie Senior, Robson Gracie who is also famous for his performance in Vale Tudo competitions. Ryan, Renzo and Ralph Gracie are the sons of Robson Gracie.

Recently the news of his death was disclosed by his granddaughter, Kyra Gracie, who is a 4th-degree BJJ Black Belt. Kyra Gracie took to her instagram and shared the news of her grandfather’s sudden death at the age of 88.

“Today Jiu-Jitsu says goodbye to Grand Master Robson Gracie, patriarch of the Gracie Family and red belt. I say goodbye to my eternal beloved grandfather who is one of the most important people in my life.”

Robson Gracie, being the second son of Master Carlos Gracie Sr. was a 9th-degree Red Belt under his father. He is majorly known for his involvement in politics. Despite having a small size, Robson Gracie was an avid grappler.

At one point of his life, he helped the Brazilian guerilla movement, Acao Libertadora Nacional (ALN). As the army was heavily involved in political affairs, Robson Gracie's move was noticed and he was detained and later released.

Robson Gracie awarded the former President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, with a nominal Black Belt before he took oath for the presidency. Robson's Gracie never liked the fame and luxurious life and his death is a great loss to the BJJ community and Gracie family.
