Mackenzie Dern Suffers First TKO Loss Of Her Career At UFC 295

Mackenzie Dern, a highly decorated BJJ athlete, recently shared the news of her first surprising loss in her entire professional mixed martial arts career. On November 11,  2023, at UFC 295, Dern faced Jessica Andrade, who defeated her with a TKO. Since Dern’s transition to MMA in 2016,  this battle marked the first where Dern had to face a loss. Although both fighters have already gained prominence with retained expertise in the strawweight division, this event would assist them more in taking their career to a pro level. After the closing of her RVCA’s sponsorship, she had to make some alterations ahead of the battle. Instead of getting trained in that gym, she completed her sparring at a camp that she arranged herself.

During the bout, Dern had the initial control with an early takedown, and she also attempted various foot attacks. However,  Andrade took control of the ground with her superior expertise. In the last 30 seconds of the second round, Andrade perfectly landed a strike on  Dern as she was getting dropped off.

In the second round, Andrade attempted three knockdowns on Dern three times, which caused the referee to decide to stop the match. At the end of the thrilling match, Andrade was declared the winner of this striking fight.

Mackenzie Dern also apologized to her fans while talking about his first knockout loss, she said:

“Hey guys, so I’m sorry about the loss,” Dern said. “I’m sorry about the fight. I tried my best, but Jessica’s tough. I got hit, and it is what it is. You can only lose if you fight.”
