UFC 267 Medical Suspensions: Teixeira Out for 6 Months

The notorious UFC 267 event card that featured memorable fights left some very nasty injuries incurred by both winners and losers of the night. In quite a surprising turn of events, winner of the main championship event, Teixeira managed to get himself a 180-day suspension on account of medical conditions while Blachowicz only got a 7-day rest.

Here’s an overview of the medical suspensions handed out to the fighters of the UFC 267:

1. Tagir Ulanbekov vs. Allan Nascimento

Tagir Ulanbekov managed to defeat Allan via unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the fight 29-28 in favor of the victor, making Tagir’s record 13-1 in MMA and 2-0 in UFC. However, the fighter sustained injuries resulting in a 180-day suspension or until his left tibia/fibula x-ray is cleared by a physician. He also faces an additional 30-day suspension while remaining without contact for 21 days. Allan Nascimento, with an 18-6 MMA and a 0-1 UFC career record has been suspended for 7 days for mandatory rest.

2. Andre Petroski vs. Hu Yaozong

Hu Yaozong was arm-triangled into tapping out in the last minutes of the third round, giving Andre Petroski the win. Yaozong, now standing at 0-3 in his UFC career, has been suspended for 45 days for a “hard bout” with 30 days of no contact. Petroski, who now has a 7-1 MMA record and a 2-0 in UFC, is looking at a 30-day suspension for a “hard bout” and will remain 21 days with no contact.

3. Makwan Amirkhani vs. Lerone Murphy

The fight lasted 1 round and finished in the first minute of the second round with a knee delivered by Lerone, knocking out Makwan Amirkhani. Murphy, who now has a record of 11-0-1 in MMA and 3-0-1 in the UFC, has been suspended for 7 days for mandatory rest. Whereas, Amirkhani has received a 60-day suspension for the knockout loss with 45 days of no contact. This fight marked the fifth defeat in Amirkhani’s career, making the updated statistics 6-5 in the UFC, and 16-7 in MMA.

4. Michal Oleksiejczuk vs. Shamil Gamzatov

Michal Oleksiejczuk defeated Shamil Gamzatov with punches, causing a stoppage due to a technical knockout in the 3rd minute of the first round. Michal Oleksiejczuk, who now stands at 16-4 in MMA and 4-2 in UFC, has been suspended for 180 days or until his left hand x-ray is cleared by physicians. He’s also suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days. Shamil Gamzatov, who now has an MMA record of 14-1 and a UFC record of 1-1, faced his career’s first defeat and was suspended for 45 days for the TKO with 30 days of no contact.

5. Benoit St-Denis vs. Elizeu Zaleski

Zaleski managed to score a win on the judge’s cards with all three ratings the fight 29-26 in his favor. This marked the first defeat in Benoit St-Denis’ career, making his MMA record 8-1 and UFC record 0-1. Whereas, Zaleski now stands at 23-7 in MMA and 9-3 in UFC. St-Denis has been suspended for 180 days or until cleared by ENT physicians with an additional 60-day suspension with 30 days of no contact. On the other hand, Zaleski also managed to severely damage his right foot and faces a 180-day suspension, or until his right foot and right-hand x-rays turn out fine. Zaleski also faces an additional suspension of 30 days with 21 days of no contact.

6. Albert Duraev vs. Roman Kopylov

Duraev managed to beat Roman Kopylov via unanimous decision, marking his 15th UFC win with 3 losses. Whereas, Roman Kopylov stands with an 8-2 MMA record and 0-2 in his UFC career. Roman Kopylov has been suspended for 60 days nasal laceration. 45 days of this suspension will be without contact. Duraev has received a 180-day suspension or until cleared by an OMF physician, with an additional 30-day suspension that entails 21 days of no contact.

7. Zubaira Tukhugov vs. Ricardo Ramos

Tukhugov managed to defeat Ricardo Ramos via unanimous decision with judges rating the right 29-28, marking Tukhugov’s 20th MMA and 5th UFC win with 5 and 2 losses in both respectively. Both, Zubaira Tukhugov and Ricardo Ramos received 30-day suspensions with 21 days of no contact for right eyebrow laceration and left eyelid laceration respectively.

8. Amanda Ribas vs. Virna Jandiroba

Ribas defeated Virna Jandiroba via unanimous decision (29-28) marking her MMA career’s 11th and UFC’s 5th win. Whereas, Virna now stands at 17-3 in MMA and 3-3 in UFC. Virna has received a 30-day suspension with 21 days of no contact whereas Amanda only received a 7-day suspension for mandatory rest.

9. Magomed Ankalaev vs. Volkan Oezdemir

Magomed Ankalaev managed to score a win against Volkan Oezdemir via unanimous decision, making his MMA record 16-1, with UFC stats at 7-1. Magomed Ankalaev has received a 7-day suspension for mandatory rest. Volkan Oezdemir, who now has a 17-6 record in MMA and 5-5 in UFC, has received a 45-day suspension for left eyebrow laceration with 30 days of no contact.

10. Khamzat Chimaev vs. Li Jingliang

Chimaev defeated Li Jingliang in the 3rd minute of the 1st round with a rear-naked choke, setting his 10th straight win in MMA and the 4th undefeated win in the UFC. Unscathed, Chimaev only received a 7-day suspension for mandatory rest. Li Jingliang, having lost his 5th UFC fight and 7th in overall MMA, is now at 10-5 in UFC and 18-7 in MMA. Having received no significant damage, Li Jingliang is also suspended for 7 days for mandatory rest.

11. Marcin Tybura vs. Alexander Volkov

Alexander Volkov managed to score a victory with a unanimous decision, setting his record at 34-9 in MMA and 8-3 in the UFC. Volkov has been suspended for 7 days for mandatory rest. Marcin Tybura now stands with an MMA record of 22-7 with his UFC stats at 9-6. Surprisingly, while the fight lasted all the rounds, Marcin didn’t receive serious injuries and only got a 7-day mandatory rest suspension.

12. Islam Makhachev vs. Dan Hooker

Makhachev got Dan Hooker in a kimura submission, tapping the UFC fighter in the 2nd minute of the 1st round. Both the fighters got a 7-day suspension as they received minimal injuries. While Dan Hooker now stands at 11-7 in UFC and 21-11 in MMA, Islam Makhachev has a record of 21-1 in MMA and 10-1 in UFC.

13. Petr Yan vs. Cory Sandhagen

Yan managed to win on the judges’ unanimous decision against Cory Sandhagen and has now marked his 16th win with 2 losses in the MMA and 8th win with 1 loss in the UFC. Cory Sandhagen now stands at 14-4 in MMA 7-3 in the UFC. Both the fighters have been suspended for 30 days on account of having fought a ‘hard bout’.

14. Glover Teixeira vs. Jan Blachowicz

Glover Teixeria managed to catch Jan Blachowicz with a rear-naked choke and submitted him in the second round of the fight, now taking his MMA career to 33-7. However, he damaged his right shoulder, earning him a 180-day suspension or until his shoulder is cleared by a physician. Added with this is the 30-day suspension with 21 days of no contact. Jan Blachowicz who now stands at 28-9 in his career didn’t receive much damage in the fight and therefore, got a 7-day suspension for mandatory rest.
