Question:What inspires you about BJJ? MMA?
Answer: The inspiration came from Cain Velasquez and how hard he works for his family. When I won my first title I took the fight against the “best” fighter in Chicago at the time. I took the fight on 7 days’ notice and I knocked him out in 43 seconds. It made me realize I have a future in this sport.
Question: Who inspires you, past or present? Why do they inspire you?
Answer: Now more than ever my daughter and family inspire me. Every time I win their dreams grow as well!
Question: What are your goals for this year? Next 3 years? Next 5 years?
Answer: Goals for this year will be to remain undefeated. In 3 years I want a contract with Bellator. And by 5 years I want to be financially stable and giving back to those who helped me get to where I am today. 5 years from now I want to be training full time and fighting for Bellator championship
Question: How long have you been training?
Answer: Total I have been training 13 years and fighting almost 10 years.
Question: How often do you train?
Answer: I train everyday 2-3 times a day. No days off. It’s fun and enjoyable to me.
Question: Any major accomplishments you’ve been able to achieve in that time?
Answer: Yes, I have gotten many opportunities to be interviewed. I’ve gotten to go to almost all fight shows for free. I am a 4x MMA champion. And I have a list of sponsors who support me. I have been able to show my family that anything is possible if you truly believe in yourself and have faith in God
Question: Do you have a go-to finishing move?
Answer: Either my armbar or guillotine choke.
Question: What do you think it takes to be a champion in your sports?
Answer: Commitment. Hard work and dedication. You need to be able to be comfortable being uncomfortable.
Question: What sort of gear do you usually keep in your gym bag before hitting the gym? Do you have different items for specific days?
Answer: Always have boxing gloves and hand wraps. I always keep a pair of Shin Pads because, I spar everywhere outside or inside. I also keep a $20 bill for emergencies and some food. I only use my Jiu Jitsu GIs on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays. But, I always use boxing gloves and MMA gloves.
