2. Floyd Mayweather Biography
Floyd Mayweather is a former boxing champion who stayed undefeated throughout his boxing career. He is the only boxer in history to achieve this feat of staying undefeated. He competed in professional boxing matches from 1996 to 2017. In these 21 years, no one had the courage to defeat Floyd, and he continued winning major boxing world championships.
2.1. Who is Floyd Mayweather?
Floyd Mayweather was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, on 24 February 1977. His real name was Floyd Joy Sinclair. At the time of his birth, he was given his mother’s name as his last name, but that was changed shortly, and his name became Floyd Mayweather. Floyd’s family was full of boxers. His father and uncle were both boxers. So, having a childhood passion for boxing was not unusual for him. His father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., competed in professional boxing matches from 1973 to 1990. Floyd’s mother, however, was a drug addict. Coming back from school to his home and finding heroin needles was not an unusual thing for Floyd Jr. Because of this, he also spent his childhood with his grandmother.
2.2 Early Life of Floyd Mayweather
Floyd lived a very poor life in his childhood. He says that he often did not have electricity, and many of his family members used to live in one room. Seeing his poor family, he thought about getting a job. He discussed it with his grandmother, but she refused and asked Floyd to continue focusing on his boxing. This decision of his grandmother proved right for Floyd. He says that his grandmother was the first to see his potential in boxing, and he proved everyone right.
2.3 Floyd’s Father About His Early Life
Floyd says that his father treated him and his sister unequally. According to him, his father used to take him to the gym and train him in boxing. Floyd Mayweather’s father was the first trainer in Floyd Mayweather’s career. His father used to treat his elder sister perfectly, but Floyd got whippings all day. But Floyd’s father disagrees with him. His father says that he treated Floyd the same way his sister did, spent the day with him, and bought him good food and clothes, just like his sister did.
2.4 Boxing Training With His Father
The one thing on which both Floyd and his father agree is that Floyd used to train with his father for boxing and go to the gym. This made him both physically and mentally strong in terms of boxing. His father built a base for Floyd. According to him, Floyd could not be in a position where he is right now if I had not trained him so hard in his childhood.
3. Coaches of Floyd Mayweather In His Early Career
Floyd Mayweather did his boxing training under his father and uncle. His father was Floyd Mayweather Sr., who was a former professional boxer. His uncle was Roger Mayweather, who was also a former professional boxer. His uncle had won two major boxing championships in his career. The boxing titles he won were super lightweight and super featherweight. Later on, there was some dispute between Floyd’s uncle and father. Despite this, Floyd did not leave his training and continued focusing on his legendary boxing career. After the feud between his father and uncle, Floyd’s training responsibility was taken over by his uncle for a significant period. After that period, his father held the responsibility for coaching him.
4. Nicknames of Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Fans used to call Floyd Mayweather with two nicknames; Money and Pretty Boy”.
4.1 Pretty Boy
The first nickname he became famous for was the pretty boy. It is common in boxing games that you have to face punches to your face. These punches can cause scars on your face. But Floyd, on the other hand, had excellent defensive techniques. His face had considerably fewer scars than his teammates and other boxers. This made Floyd’s face much clearer than others. All thanks to the boxing defensive techniques taught by Floyd’s uncle and father. Seeing his clear face, his teammates started calling him pretty boy. This nickname became famous, and fans even started calling him by that name.
4.2 Money
The second nickname Floyd became famous for was ‘money’. The reason is simply that Floyd had a lot of money. He used to showcase his money on his social media platforms. He brought the change in his nickname and started calling himself Floyd Money Mayweather. He removed the pretty boy tag with his name and rebranded himself with his new moniker, Money. He also showcases his lavish lifestyle, enjoying expensive things. He said that you cannot call a 35-year-old man a pretty boy. He said that the thought of changing his name to his new nickname money came when he was throwing his money on the camera. The idea remained stuck in his mind.
5. Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s Retirement From His Undefeated Boxing Career
Floyd Mayweather Jr. took retirement three times in his undisputed career. The first time he announced his retirement was in 2007 after beating De La Hoya. But soon after, it was announced that he would be fighting with Ricky Hatton, who was a welterweight champion. After defeating him, Floyd resumed his career and defeated many great boxers. After his fight with Andre Berto, he announced his retirement again for the second time in 2015 with a record of 49-0. But again, he came out of retirement, announcing his match with Conor McGregor. This time he played only one match. He defeated Conor and ended his professional career forever with a record boxing figure of 50-0.
