Biography

Marcos Bonilla is a 31 year old professional MMA fighter and Jiu Jitsu Blue belt. Marcos has been training in for about 9 years now. He currently trains under UFC Vet and Jiu jitsu black belt Gabe “Godzilla” Rudeiger.

Marcos holds a regular full-time job, owns his own gym and fights professionally. A jack of all trades. Marcos some how finds the time to train every day with the occasional rest day. Marcos is a former amateur featherweight champion.He is Bellator MMA veteran and currently fights under the Combate Americas promotion.

 

Q&A Session Between Marcos Bonilla and Elite Sports

Question: What inspires you about BJJ?

Answer: For me fighting is the ultimate test of heart. I get inspired every time i step in a cage, I learn something new about myself every fight. Win or lose. MMA has shown me that you can do anything through hard work and believing in yourself. I want to use MMA as an avenue to help inspire others to follow their dreams.

Question: Who inspires you, past or present? Why do they inspire you?

Answer: As a young boy I was inspired by the great Oscar De La Hoya. I used to watch him fight every chance I got. A guy from East LA on a world stage that went on to become one of the all time greats. I was inspired to become a MMA fighter after watching my first BJ PENN fight. He was just a fighters fighter.. His style and aggression was very appealing for me. I got to meet BJ in my last fight and in speaking with him I got the opportunity to credit him for my becoming a MMA fighter.

Question: What are your goals for this year? Next 3 years? Next 5 years?

Answer: My goals for 2017 is to go undefeated for the year. It was my goal for 2016 as well I fell short in December and went 2-1 after fighting with the flu. It’s made me more motivated than ever. I plan on making Jiu Jitsu competitions a regular part of my in between fights routine. The Goal is always gold. The ultimate goal is to fight as long as my body can go, and pass on my knowledge to the next generation of fighters and Jiu Jitsu practitioners. The martial arts journey is never ending so its hard to put a time frame on it.

Question: How long have you been training?

Answer: I have been training for about 8 years now.

Question: How often do you train?

Answer: Everyday, there are no off days.

Question: Any major accomplishments you’ve been able to achieve in that time?

Answer: I’ve become an amateur champion, I turned pro, I have fought for 2 of the biggest MMA promotions in the world, Ive been on TV and headlined 2 UFC FIGHT PASS cards so those are all major accomplishments for me.

Question: Do you have a go-to finishing move?

Answer: Not really. I take whats presented to me wether its on the feet or on the ground.

Question: What do you think it takes to be a champion in your sports?

Answer: Hard work, dedication, perseverance and discipline. Stay focused and visualize until it comes to fruition.
