Biography

His name is Georgie Garcia. He has been training MMA for 6 years. He started off with karate as a kid and fell in love with martial arts at the age of 10. By the age of 19 he had received his black belt under kenpo-shotokan. Later through the years wrestling is what got me into more of the combat sports. He wrestled throughout high school winning 2 all city league championships. After high school, he was introduced to jiu-jitsu where he started to become more intrigued by the idea of competing in mixed martial arts. It was only a couple of months after he had been training in Jiu Jitsu where he found my present muay thai coach Julio Trana under Saekson Muay Thai. While doing my striking under the banner he was introduced to wrestling coach for blackhouse, Kenny Johnson. He now goes back and forth from each gyms training under both coaches and making the best of both to become a great fighter and coach.

Q&A Session Between Georgie Anthony Garcia and Elite Sports

Question: Any major accomplishments you’ve been able to achieve in that time?

Answer: The major accomplishment I've been able to achieve is being able to train and fight full time. Training under the Saekson banner with Julio Trana has opened many doors and I've been taking advantage of the opportunities since. And My 4 professional wins are all finishes within the second round so thats definitely something I am proud of.

Question: What inspires you about MMA?

Answer: What inspires me about bjj is the transitions through everything. The technicality of the art is amazing how every little detail is the link to every move for a finish. What inspires me about mma is the ability to put more than one art/style together and connect all pieces of the sport. And to become the best or to become a champion at doing so.

Question: Who inspires you, past or present? Why do they inspire you?

Answer: The person who inspires me is my mother. Being a single mother who gets up early everyday to make a good living for herself and myself as well. Whether she's tired or not. She gets up, goes to work and gets it done. And I know she does it to make sure She's providing for me. always taught me to never rely on anyone to get it done. And if you want something bad, you have to do do it yourself. It inspires me to keep pushing day in and day out. Whenever im in the gym it motivates to keep going no matter how tired I am.

Question: What are your goals for this year? Next 3 years? Next 5 years?

Answer: My goals for this year is to fight 4 times and win them all. Ive fought 3 times the previous year and i went 2-1. So Im definitely pushing for an undefeated year. The next 3 years my goal is to be signed to a big mma promotion. UFC if the opportunity is there. Definitely working towards it. Maybe even get there sooner than 3 years. For 5 my year goal would be to have already have captured a world title with a couple of title defenses behind it as well.

Question: What is your Dream Fight?

Answer: Fight under the big MMA promoters like UFC.

Question: How long have you been training?

Answer: I have been training for 6 years in mma, and 12 years in wrestling. Been a long journey and i have been enjoying the ride.

Question: How often do you train?

Answer: I train as often as i can until my body needs a break. Even on sundays when thats usually my day off, I'll get a little hike or jog. I try to spread my training from striking to wrestling and jiu jitsu. Making sure I cover all assets of the game.

Question: What sort of gear do you usually keep in your gym bag before hitting the gym? Do you have different items for specific days

Answer: The type of gear I keep in my bag all depends on what day it is. Or what training session is up next. When its wrestling i only take my wrestling shoes my mouth piece and mma gloves. Of course my clothes that i will be training in. If its Muay Thai, i take my boxing gloves, 10 oz and 16 oz, my shin guards for when we use kicks in our drills. I also bring my thai pads and focus mitts, it always helps when theres a big group, just to make sure theres enough pads for everyone. When its a day for jiu jitsu i take my gi and my belt, and I'm ready to rock and roll. There's alot of gear i have for eCh session so im constantly changing bags.

Question: Do you have a go-to finishing move?

Answer: I don't have a go to finishing move. I definitely try to open things up with whatever opportunities are available. Whether its on the feet with striking or on the ground with jiu jitsu. I like to keep an open game.

Question: What do you think it takes to be a champion in your sports?

Answer: I think it takes alot to he a champion in mma. Not just the skill or the hard work, but the smarts too. Its a mixture of everything in one. The smarts, the speed, the strenght, and of course the hard work.
