Biography

His name is Derek MIchael Camp. He was born in Marietta GA in 1984. He started wrestling when he was 9. He won an Alabama State Championship at 18 while also obtaining the most valuable wrestler award in the state tournament. After high school graduation he played football at the University of West Alabama for one semester. He joined the Army after his first and only semester of college. While in the Army he joined the coveted 75th Ranger Regiment where he was an infantry special operations soldier from 2003 to 2007. He deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan multiple times where he saw combat on multiple occasions.

After honorably leaving the Ranger Regiment he had a lot of problems coping with PTSD and civilian life until he found MMA. He started training in Birmingham Alabama in 2008. In 2010 he moved to Portland OR where he participated in several unlicensed fights in Washington. He had his first licensed fight in Spartanburg SC, in Nov of 2016. Now he train full time and coach Muay Thai and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu at Rogue Combat Club trying to show others the sport that changed his life and made him a better human being.

Question: What will you suggest to the newcomers?

Answer: You either have to be all in or all out. There is no halfway.

Question: What does it mean for you to be a fighter?

Answer: Fighting is my life. It’s my job, my hobby, my exercise. Fighting is inside of me. Fighting isn’t a sport, it’s a way of life.

Question: What are the essential things for the training?

Answer: Cardio, drilling is imperative, sparring, lifting, mobility.

Question: What separates you from every other fighter in your division?

Answer: I will always have better cardio. My work ethic.

Question: What is the meaning of success in your mind?

Answer: Accomplishing my goals.

Question: What sort of gear do you usually keep in your gym bag before hitting the gym? Do you have different items for specific days?

Answer: Most importantly I like to keep my MMA Gym Bag with me to keep my extra gear

Question: With whom you would like to fight, and why?

Answer: CM Punk because I would crush him. lol. Conner McGregor because I would crush him.

Question: Is there any difference b/w your common days’ diet and during competition training diet?

Answer: Same diet all the time.

Question:Any advice for beginners?

Answer: Always give your 100.

Question: Is the martial arts necessary for a common person? How?

Answer: Yes, because people need to know how to defend themselves.

Question: Which moment is memorable for you in your past competitions?

Answer: MY first fight was a TKO, it was great.

Question: How do martial arts help to build a leader?

Answer: Martial arts teach you perseverance, discipline, and humility.

Question: What would be your dream fight?

Answer: UFC championship.

Question: How is the road plan necessary for any competition?

Answer: So you know how to train for your competitor.

Answer: Hands down.

Question: How much importance has the sports gear in any competition?

Answer: It’s the fighter not the gear

Question: Who is your favorite legendary fighter? Why?

Answer: Matt Hughs. He had a terrific double leg and grit!
