Biography

Shamara is a 21 year old female and a mother to a 1 year old little boy. Shamara is currently a half time college student and an Executive Assistant to an Assisted Living Facility. She started boxing at the age of 14 and 1st competed at the age of 17. Shamara competed at local venues like Battle of the Siam and Brawl Room Blitz. She was 3/0 in boxing at the time. Shamara took some time off to focus on school and work, later returning to boxing at the age of 20 years old after she had her 1st child. At 21 she competed for the 1st time in 2 1/2 years, she lost her 1st fight back but continued to train and is now 3-1 currently holding the state title belt under Undisputed Fight Night. Shamara is registered to USA boxing and has aspirations of becoming an Olympic boxer than going professional.

Q&A Session Between Shamara Woods and Elite Sports

Question: What inspires you about Boxing?

Answer: I’ve always been fascinated with the Art of Boxing. I Think it takes a certain kind of person to be able to go into a boxing ring and fight and keep fighting even after you are exhausted. The standing 8 count I think makes it that much harder because when you’re down the fight isn’t over, you still have a chance to get up and prove you’re the better fighter.

Question: What are your goals for this year? Next 3 years? Next 5 years?

Answer: This year I have already accomplished one of my goals which was to win a title, October 7th I won’t the state title at Undisputed Fight night.

Question: Who inspires you, past or present? Why do they inspire you?

Answer: I am inspired by Mike Tyson, he has always been a favorite fighter because of the way he always ended a fight. He didn’t come to fight he came ready to destroy his opponents. Currently for women’s boxing I have to say there are a few boxers that inspire me, including Amanda Serrano, Clarissa Shields, and Heather Hardy. The level they have reached in Boxing and their records are impressive. I look at them as an example of what I’d like to achieve in my career. Why do they inspire you?

Question: How long have you been training?

Answer: I have been training since I was 14 years old and competed for the 1st time at 17/18 years old

Question: Who is your favorite legendary fighter

Answer: Mike Tyson, because of his sheer passion and commitment.

Question: Any major accomplishments you’ve been able to achieve in that time?

Answer: In the time I have been back Boxing since February’s lost over 30lbs and competed at 4 events. Winning a trophy and a state title belt. Those have been my biggest accomplishments since being back.

Question: How often do you train?

Answer: I go to my boxing gym at least 3 Days out the week and go to a regular gym at least 1-2 Days out the week. If I can’t make it to a gym I usually will go running 2-3 miles or go bike riding at least 10-12 miles.

Question: Do you have a go-to finishing move?

Answer: My go to finishing move would be a hook with a straight right hand.

Question: What do you think it takes to be a champion in your sports?

Answer: I think in this sport it takes determination, a very strong will, and the heart of a lion. You have to be able to finish off an opponent with no regrets. When it comes to training you have to be able to give your 120% to be able to last so many rounds fighting.

Question: What sort of gear do you usually keep in your gym bag before hitting the gym? Do you have different items for specific days?

Answer: In my bag I usually keep gauze, tape, 2 sets of clothes, 2 sets of Boxing Gloves. One 12-oz pair and one 14-oz pair along with 2 sets of shoes. My boxing shoes and a pair of running shoes. I also keep a headgear and mouthpiece.
