Biography

His name is George Stephens. He is 15-year-old. He has trained martial arts for over eleven years and started with Tae Kwon Do and he achieved his black belt in it. Then he moved onto MMA (Muay Thai, Kali, basic grappling, and Wing Chun) and he achieved his junior black belt in that. Then he found jiu-jitsu and have stuck with it since he started. He has been doing it for over 4 years now and he is a green and black belt. He competes in tournaments regularly and brings home mostly gold.H e has placed in every competition he has entered. He has 41 medals and 26 of them being gold. He has won Tennessee state championship and SC state championship twice and won multiple regular NewBreed tournaments. He also competed in Grappling industries, AGF, and other small competitions. He also placed 3rd in the Atlanta Summer International Open in the kids division. One of his most rememberable wins was when he won the Adult Blue Belt division a weight class above him on June 30, 2018. He just loves Jiu-Jitsu and the people involved with it.

Question: What inspires you about BJJ?

Answer: My instructor Rafael Rosendo Dos Santos.

Question: Who inspires you, past or present? Why do they inspire you?

Answer: My instructor Rafael Rosendo Dos Santos. This is present and he inspires me by training and teaching us to be the best athlete we can possibly be.

Question: What are your goals for this year? Next 3 years? Next 5 years?

Answer:This year is to do as many competitions as I can and of course win them. Next 3 years is get my blue belt and become a world champion. Next 5 years is to do more competitions and hopefully get my purple belt.

Question: How long have you been training?

Answer: Just over 4 years.

Question: How often do you train?

Answer: Every day. Mostly twice a day

Question: Any major accomplishments you’ve been able to achieve in that time?

Answer: I have won SC State Championship twice and Tennessee State Championship. I have won multiple Newbreeds (including winning Blue Belt Adult a weight class above). I have done AGF, Grappling Industries, and other smaller tournaments. I also placed 3rd in the Atlanta Summer International Open IBJJF.

Question: Do you have a go-to finishing move?

Answer:Either a loop-choke from guard or an armbar.

Question: What do you think it takes to be a champion in your sports?

Answer: Commitment, Heart, Dedication, and effort.

Question: What sort of gear do you usually keep in your gym bag before hitting the gym?

Answer: Do you have different items for specific days? A GI, No Gi gear, tape, a towel, and Shampoo and body wash for a shower after training.

Question: What will you suggest to the newcomers?

Answer: To stick at training. You will eventually improve. It just takes time.

Question: What does it mean for you to be a fighter?

Answer: It means that I have stuck to this sport and that I have dedication and heart for it.

Question: What are the essential things for the training?

Answer: To have good coaches, good training partners, and most importantly you need personal dedication and will to keep training.

Question: What separates you from every other fighter in your division?

Answer: I put work in to be the best I possibly can and work for my victories on the mat.

Question: What is the meaning of success in your mind?

Answer: That I have accomplished a personal goal or I have overcome a mental battle.

Question: With whom you would like to fight, and why?

Answer: I don’t have a specific person I would like to fight. I will just roll with anyone who gets put in my division.

Question: Is there any difference b/w your common days’ diet and during competition training diet?

Answer: Not really. I will just eat a little less on the week leading up to the competition just so I don’t go over. But luckily my Mom is a great cook so most of the time I eat healthily anyway.

Question: How does a beginner will prepare for the competition?

Answer: Any advice for beginners? It is is simple. Just train, eat right and believe in yourself. Then go do your best and leave it all on the mats.

Question: How is it helpful to have the information about your competitor?

Answer: You know what he/she will do and what they like to do.

Question: Is the martial arts necessary for a common person? How?

Answer: It teaches you self discipline and self defense which everybody needs.

Question: Which moment is memorable for you in your past competitions?

Answer:When I won the Blue Belt Adult division a weight class above at a Newbreed on June 30, 2018.

Question: How do martial arts help to build a leader?

Answer: I help teach the kids and that has taught me how to be a leader.

Question: What would be your dream fight?

Answer: A black belt world final with everybody watching.

Question: How is the road plan necessary for any competition?

Answer: Train harder when you know you have a competition coming up. Watch the amount of food you eat. Also just have fun.

Question: Do you have any advice for your competitors?

Answer: Don’t let me pull guard.

Question: How much importance has the sports gear in any competition?

Answer: You always need good gear so it doesn’t fall apart but I also want gear that looks good. That’s why I choose Elite because it ticks both boxes.

Question: What should we learn from the legends /or from the seniors?

Answer: We should learn to keep going. Age shouldn’t stop you. My inspiration is Helio Gracie because he did Jiu-Jitsu almost till the day he died.

Question: To whom you would like to compliment for your success?

Answer: My instructor Rafa and Alex. They both put a lot of time into me and help me get better every day. Who is your favorite legendary fighter? Why? Bruce Lee. He was such a inspiration and he was a cool guy. Also, he was a perfectionist in many arts.
